Get to Know: What is Really Happening at HTTP(S) Connections Between Your Computer and the Internet

Computer and Internet, whatever we do, we need them. Some people are so addicted to computer and Internet that it becomes difficult for them to live without computer and Internet, like me. I am talking about the traffic between your computer and the Internet. Do you know what is happening on this connection? Which application is connecting to Internet and where the information are being sent and received? What information are passing over this connection? You have answer that you can check it through firewall.

No doubt firewall can inspect which program is connecting to Internet but it is difficult for you to get info that what is the communication between that program and the destination at Internet. For example, you are updating your security software. Do you know where it is going to connect to get updates? There are many other programs which are connecting to the Internet when firewall allows but where they connect? It might be that the allowed program is connected at some wrong destination and you do not know about it.

Fiddler is a Web Debugging Proxy which logs all HTTP(S) traffic between your computer and the Internet. Fiddler allows you to inspect all HTTP(S) traffic, set breakpoints, and “fiddle” with incoming or outgoing data. Fiddler includes a powerful event-based scripting subsystem, and can be extended using any .NET language.

Here Fiddler helps you to get to know where your program is connecting and what data is being transferred between your computer and the Internet. You can know each connection made by any application which tries to connect to Internet. For example, I opened Firefox and opened COMPUTELOGY. Here, what Fiddler did? In simple words, it showed me where I am connecting? From where the data is coming? What data is coming? what is the size of data? How much time is taken to complete the request? And what was my request. This is just a simple example of Fiddler.

Fiddler lets you know much more than this. You can have full control over your HTTP(S) traffic by using fiddler. It is not for newbees. You must have some knowledge about Internet and your computer along with data communication. Try it, you will enjoy when you know what is really moving on your Internet connection between your computer and the Internet. CLICK HERE to go to website and CLICK HERE to download Fiddler.

@ FatCat – I am bit agree with you but a bit knowledge of running programs along with networking is necessary to understand it.

FatCat

Hmm…not for newbies…is my knowledge such as knowing networking basics, example the OSI level, enough to use this program?
