AVG LiveKive Offered 5 GB Free Encrypted Online Storage

Some of you friends may remember a service from AOL named XDrive which offered 5GB free of online data backup storage. Well, it has been discontinued since a long time. There are many online data backup services available but most (98%) are just money making schemes like RapidShare, MegaUpload, etc. We needed a really serious player and AVG entered sometime back in online data-backup game.

In this week AVG started accepting general people to test their new data-backup service by offering unlimited storage for six months OR, 5GB for one year (mentioned at an other place). But it looks like 5GB is more real because I signed up through the link giving unlimited storage but when I installed AVG LiveKive, it showed me only 5GB. It seems that at the moment, there is no other plan available.

Well, 5GB storage space is not a big deal but still it is better than money making hosts. I hope AVG will continue this service as free for personal use and will not reduce the online storage space and will keep at least 5GB for free use. And they will also not kill it like XDrive (infact, I am missing XDrive).

In fact, all online-data-backup services have lots of common features. But, if AVG team wants, they can make LiveKive an exceptional service if they provide something really interesting, like implementing documents management as Google docs. They know it better how to do. It is just a piece of thoughts.

Your options up until now have included installing specialized software and drives, copying files to internal/external hard-drives, burning DVDs, or saving to a USB flash drive. But software gets corrupted, hard drives fail, DVDs get damaged, and USBs are easily lost. Not to mention the fact that we hardly ever remember to back up our files regularly. That’s why we developed AVG LiveKive.
