It’s Official: Outpost Security Suite v7 for FREE

I’ve been so long away from writing that I’ve lost track of things. Thank God I’ve went through the last of my exams and are awaiting for graduation. For now, back to writing articles: my favorite hobby!

Anyway, I’ve been wanting to write this for ages and maybe some of you out there have not notice this: Outpost Security Suite is now FREE of charge (Talk about the wow effect)! Outpost Security Suite v7 is the latest offering from Agnitum, a Russian-based antivirus which has been in the market for quite some time. Apparently they have gone free since August or September this year but other than commercial reasons, i have no idea as to why they would take this direction. Who cares, anyway? We’ve got free security suite, man!

As you all know, Outpost Security Suite uses the popular Firewall and HIPS module of their own, adding a malware-scanning and removal feature powered by VirusBuster antivirus engine.

To grab a copy of the free installer, just visit this website, download the free version (32-bit and 64-bit are both available), install it and halfway through installation, it will ask for your name and e-mail address. Key it in and Agnitum will send you a free 1-year key to activate the free version. As simple as that.

There are some drawbacks though. An installation and comparison shows that the free version seemed to lack the following components:

– locking/protecting program settings with a password;
– importing and exporting settings;
– automatic/daily database updates;
– attack detection;
IP blocklist;
– scheduled on-demand scans;
– application guard;
– file & folder lock;
ID theft protection;
– web filtering (site blacklist, ad blocking, site blocking);
– multilanguage support.

The concept of forcing the most basic of security functions to users does not appeal to an advanced user like me, but novice users may find this stripped-down security suite a good-enough protection. So if you have a need for an antivirus and you fancy Outpost Security Suite, then just give it a go: you might even end up liking it!

For those connected regularly to the Internet, I’ve been recommending pairing it with Panda Cloud AntiVirus ever since it came out (AVG started dying in during version 7, AVAST is… Read more »
