Sophos Has Released Sandboxie As Freeware for Everyone
I do not know how old this news is. I was tipped about it a while ago and I decided to let you. Sophos has released Sandboxie as a freeware for everyone. This means all the paid features of Sandboxie are available for everyone without any restrictions. So, if you have been waiting for it, you can have it without any charges.
Sophos is a security software vendor which provide different kinds of security solutions for home users as well as for enterprises. They also have their free antivirus for Android devices, Sophos Mobile Security, which I have rated as a top security solution based upon different parameters. Sophos Mobile Security is permanently installed on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
Sandboxie creates a virtual environment in your Windows operating system. Because of this virtual environment, what is inside that environment cannot communicate the outside world. This means there is no connection through the walls of that environment. This way, when you run a software inside the Sandboxie, that software has no connection with other parts of the Windows. On the same principle, you can install software.
I forgot to tell you that Sophos has decided to make Sandboxie an open source, in future, application. That’s is a good news. This way the Sandboxie security will rise and bug removal will be fast. Maybe we will also see a few Sandboxie clones.
Sophos is excited to announce that we are making Sandboxie a free tool, with plans to transition it to an open source tool.
Sophos, Sandboxie
This new evolution of Sandboxie is one we are enthusiastic about, but that does not mean this was an easy decision to make. Sandboxie has never been a significant component of Sophos’ business, and we have been exploring options for its future for a while.
Frankly, the easiest and least costly decision for Sophos would have been to simply end of life Sandboxie. However, we love the technology too much to see it fade away. More importantly, we love the Sandboxie community too much to do that. The Sandboxie user base represents some of the most passionate, forward thinking, and knowledgeable members of the security community and we didn’t want to let you down.
After thoughtful consideration we decided that the best way to keep Sandboxie going was to give it back to its users – transitioning it to an open source tool. We will release more information about the open source project as we continue to work on the details.
Until the open source transition is completed we have decided to make all restricted features of Sandboxie completely free.
If the link above does not work for you, you can always go to Sandboxie website and download it from there.
