Google Nexus 7 Tablet Has Quad-Core Tegra 3CPU, 12-Core GPU, 1GB RAM, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Starts At $199
Google, yesterday, unveiled its brand new tablet Nexus 7 in its annual Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco. Google is taking order for Nexus 7 and it will be delivered during next 2 to 3 weeks. This is a 7-inch tablet starting at $199 but with Quad-Core CPU, 12-Core GPU, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and many other features. Nexus 7 is manufactured by ASUS.
Just few days back, when Microsoft revealed its Surface tablets, I was seriously thinking to buy one because it can easily integrate with PCs and lots of Windows software can run on it. Considering the compatibility of Surface tab, it would be OK to have one though it will be costly compared to Android tabs. I had already read about Google Nexus tab and thought to stop for a while. Just for your information that I do not own any tablet though have planned many times.
The news were telling that Nexus will fall under $199 with high-tech features. Features which are competitive and will force you to think before you select a tab for you. Well, all is not true but, I think, Nexus features as well as price still compel you to think about it before you go and buy a tab. I think with these features and with low price tag, it will be a good purchase as well as experience with any tab specially Android tab. As it is running the latest Android 4.1 (a.k.a Jelly Bean), there will be no wait for the latest features of Android OS.
Google Nexus 7 has 7-inch screen size, 1280×800 HD display with 216ppi (Pixels Per Inch). You can watch high definition videos and play high density games smoothly. The New iPad has 264ppi but its resolution and price, both, are high. Nexus 7 has scratch resistance corning glass which is not unbreakable and the same is with all other iOS, Android and Windows tabs. It has 1.2mp front camera which makes it possible to have video conversation. So, if you wanna have video chat using Skype or ooVoo’s famous free 12-way video chat, Nexus could be best choice. But they did not include rear camera. In $199, I think it is OK to have only one camera, at least you can see yourself.
Nexus 7 comes with two different internal storage capacities: 8 GB and 16 GB. Looking at price tag, what else you should expect. You can install important apps and your favorite games. You will also be able to install MS Office whenever it will be released. But for me the internal storage capacity is quite enough for my personal use. Sadly, there is no MicroSD expansion slot. But you have Micro USB port and Bluetooth. So, transferring data will not be a problem though no expansion in internal storage. It come with NFC (Android Beam), just connect two Android devices and transfer data.
All major tabs are coming with 1 GB built-in RAM and Google Nexus is also equipped with 1GB RAM. Now tabs and pads should have at least 2GB but for time being and considering $199, 1GB RAM is OK. With NVIDIA® Tegra® 3 Quad-Core CPU and 12-Core GPU, Nexus is capable of multitasking smoothly. You get at least 9 hours of video playback with 4325 mAH battery. You get up to 300 hours of standby time. Nexus 7 has only WiFi and there is no 3G or 4G LTE support. You might think it as a problem but lets hope to have it in next Nexus 7.
Google Nexus 7 will start shipping in mid July if you order now. Currently it is available in US, Canada, UK , Australia only but hopefully soon will be available in other countries. Google Nexus 8GB will cost you $199 and 16GB will cost you $249 only. I don’t think that buying Google Nexus 7 will be a bad idea. The features are competitive, price is affordable and hopefully Nexus 7 users will get Android updates before others.
